World Doula Week: Favorite Collaborations

No doula should have to go this business alone. Actually, it's nearly impossible to do so. The national burn out rate for doulas in solo practice is 2 years. So that's why I love my teams so dearly!

In 2021, I was feeling burnt out and needed some support myself. My friend and fellow doula, Mal, got our heads together and birthed the Birth Doulas of Michiana Partnership. We service the southwest Michigan and Northern Indiana areas with high quality service and a great collaborative team approach.

This partnership has been a God-send. These ladies are why I am still in this business today. We work a rotating call schedule while still getting to privately contract with our clients - ideal for healthy work/life balance.

I also love having high quality resources and other teams to refer my clients to. Since the breastfeeding journey can be fraught with challenge, we are connected with some great groups of Lactation Consultants in the Great Lakes Region. Birth Lactation Connection is one of these groups that I often send my clients to.

Doulas cannot be expected to be an expert in every area. This is why having a collaborative team approach is so critical. Networking with other practitioners and having a list of high quality referrals allows me to care for my clients holistically and with the long term in mind.
