World Doula Week: Favorite Laboring Positions
Ooh! So many to choose from. Rather than picking a couple favorite positions, I had to put it in categories.

Basically, I love using asymmetric positions - why, you might ask? The mid pelvis is the narrowest space that baby has to navigate during the process of birth, and any position that helps one hip move outward can facilitate a wider mid pelvis and help baby move through more smoothly.
This might be a lunge (sitting, standing or laying), having a knee on a yoga block, or utilizing a peanut ball while laboring in bed.
My other favorite laboring position is on the toilet! The bathroom is a space of safety for most people, and when we sit on the toilet, we naturally relax and release our pelvic floor. Much progress can be made whiles working with contractions on the toilet.
Movement in labor is so beneficial in aiding the speed of labor and birth. No matter what positions I am using, I am sure to change them frequently to give mama and baby the optimal opportunity to synergize their movements for a smoother birth!
